Who We Are

The Caribbean Nursing Student Organization (CNSO) was founded on October 24, 2003 as a non governmental, non profit, non partisan, regional Nursing Student Organization formed as an affiliate to the Caribbean Nurses Organization. (CNO). The CNSO is comprised of Nursing Students within the Caribbean.  The CNSO on its founding takes credit for being the first regional Student Nurses Organization in the world. For the efficient functioning of the organization, it has been divided into four (4) regions.

   MEET THE EXECUTIVE

 

President: Francheska Richardson

Francheska Richardson is 21 years old and hails from the beautiful island of St. Lucia. She has recently completed an Associate's Degree in General Nursing at the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College and has a passion for helping others. Previously, she served as Secretary of the St. Lucia National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities where she also began writing articles entitled the "NCPD Minute", which highlighted various issues affecting persons with disabilities. Prior to this, Ms. Richardson attended the St. Joseph's Convent where she played an active part in various clubs including the Junior Red Cross and Writer's Club. In her spare time, she also undertakes voluntary work with organisations such as the Cornerstone Home for the Homeless. She currently serves as the President of the Caribbean Nursing Students Organisation.

Vice President: Joanna Alleyne

Joanna Alleyne hails from the land of the hummingbird, the twin island, Trinidad and Tobago. She is currently a third year nursing student pursuing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at the University of the Southern Caribbean; where she made the Deans List in her second year. She completed her secondary schooling at Naparima Girls' High School where she was successful at both CSEC and CAPE Levels. At her alma mater, she placed third in the Caribbean for CAPE Sociology in 2013 and was reognized for topping her school in CAPE Communication Studies. She also gained leadership skills as House Captain, Peer Helper and Prefect which she carried on into nursing, now the Vice Class Represenative for her year group. Ms. Alleyne loves to dance and she enjoys listening to music and going for walks. Within her community, she is a member of the Beauty in Essence Organization where she generally assists in Public Relations. Ms. Alleyne is currently working together with other student nurses to revive that which is now called Trinidad and Tobago Student Nurses & Nursing Assistants Association.  She is privileged to be a part of CNSO and she ensures that she will work together with the executive in uniting nursing students throughout the Caribbean.  As a nursing student, and future RN, she desires to uphold the professional standards of nursing and continues to provide quality care to her patients. She also hopes to conduct nursing research in the near future.

Purpose Of CNSO:

 

1) Protect, promote, and support the economic and general welfare of student nurses across the region. 

 

2) To strive for excellence in nursing education, and to facilitate the continuing professional development of student nurses

 

3) Promote adherence to the nursing code of ethics by student nurses

 

4) Promote relationships and collaboration among student nurses across the region. 

 

5) Provide a collective voice to advocate on behalf of student nurses in the regions served. 

 

6) Represent and speak for student nurses with  allied health organization, governmental bodies, and the public, across the region and internationally

 

7) Uphold the bylaws of CNSO.

Vice President: Joanna Alleyne

Secretary: Malika Peters

Malika Peters is currently a senior third year student of the Antigua and Barbuda School of Nursing department ,she has also earned successful completion in all education levels from Pre-K to tertiary level with a certification of distinction in social sciences. From my tenure at the Antigua School of Nursing I have been vice president of our student association for one year and president for the last two years, in which various charity projects and school activities were accomplished but most of all the student body was a priority in answering and making to a reality with partnership of the Nursing department faculty a success. Miss Peters enjoys reading, travelling, various genres of music but most of all she is a firm believer in respect of all beings moral values and belief system. Once called upon I am always willing to leaned my assist as within my capacity and offer further directions for the completion of a task if the need arise.

As I continue into the nursing profession to offer my caring spirit for years to come, I charge us (students) as this organization continues to remain a voice for students of the region in all arenas of nursing practice.

Regional Director: Jesse Melius

Jesse Melius is recent nursing graduate from the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, Division of Health Sciences in St.Lucia. He was previously a student at the American International Medical University where he was a fervent member on the Student Council Executive in the capacity of Public Relations Officer.  He is a certified Peer Counselor and a talented musician. A very charismatic individual with a nursing goal of providing superior care and to meet the needs of fellow comrades. His goal within the organization is for student nurses to connect and to remain connected holistically. To uphold the approved nursing standards and maintain a remarkable clinical reputation in the hospitals, community and society in general. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” (Marianne Williamson)

Treasurer: Shannon O'Marde

Shannon O'Marde is a twenty one (21) year old third (3rd) year nursing student of the Antigua and Barbuda School of Nursing. She formerly attended the Villa Primary School at the age of five(5) where she successfully graduated in 2005. Miss O'marde then attended the Antigua Girls High School where she was successsful in her studies with  seven (7) CXC subjects to include Mathematics, English, Chemistry et al in 2010. Her educational journey then continued when she enrolled into the A Levels Department at the Antigua State College. Its was at this point in her life that she was inspired to change her professional aspirations and to take up the batton of becoming a nurse. Miss O'marde is currently a member of the Kentish Pentecostal Church and a past member of the Kentish Pentecostal Crusaders. She enjoys reading, singing and considers herself to be a timid but firm individual when it is necessary. She hopes to continue to flourish as she remains one of the top three(3) student in her class and obtain her license in 2016. Miss O'marde is certain that the work of her collegues and herself will ensure that the Caribbean Nursing Student Organization protects and speaks for the student bodies around the region. As she is dedicated and focused to ensure that all goals are met for the Caribbean Nursing Student Organization.
